Carpet beetles

In Ontario, Carpet beetles may cause serious damage to materials of animal origin such as wool, fur, hair, feathers and brushes made from animal hair. They developed rapidly in stored products which contain high animal protein content such as dry dog and cat food, powdered milk or cereals. They prefer dark areas. The adult do not feed on plants and flowers.

Silverfish

Silverfish and firebrats are wingless insects. They have somewhat flattened, tapered torpedo- shaped body which is covered metallic looking scales. Silverfish also be found outdoors. They feed quietly on starchy substances such as glue, wall paper paste and starchy foods. They will also eat biscuits and bread crumbs. Centipedes

The centipedes most often found in homes is the House Centipede, a Mexican species now found throughout North America. This species has 15 pairs of legs. Millipede

Millipede slow moving creatures with long body. This creature is active during night and hides in dark, moist places during the day. Patio walls and foundation areas provides excellent shelter. Fleas and Ticks

Fleas and ticks are transferred onto your pet through gardens and contact with other pets and animals. Sometimes these infestations can be transferred into your homes. You may notice ticks and fleas on furniture and curtains. A disease that is spread to humans and other animals by an insect or tick is called a vector-borne disease. Lyme disease, West Nile Virus and Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) are vector-borne diseases. Lyme is a bacterial disease spreads in humans and animals by tick bites. It can affects your joints, heart and nervous system. This bacterial disease can be carried out by small animal, mice, squirrel or other bird. In Ontario, the black-legged tick (Ixodes scapularis) spreads Lyme disease to people and other animals. The black-legged tick is also known as the deer tick.

House Fly

The house fly feeds on liquid material and will regurgitate the semi digested material of its last meal (vomitus) on the intended food source. This habit of leaving vomitus spots on food sources is the major reason the house fly is an efficient transmitter of more than 30 microbial diseases including Typhoid, fever, cholera, dysentery etc.

Cricket

House cricket can live outdoor in warm weather, but invade homes in the fall. They can live indoor indefinitely, hiding in warm dark places during the day and coming out in night time. Once the crickets invade a house, their monotonous chirping can become very annoying. Crickets will feed on almost any plant or animal material, such as paper, leather, cotton, wool and nylon.

Sow Bugs

Sow bugs usually seen in moist areas of basement, beneath debris, rocks, or boards in gardens. It is most active at night time and found under boards, rocks, garbage or decaying vegetation. Dark damp basement also prefer hiding spot. They often cluster together to conserve moisture.

Yellow Jacket, Hornet are variety of wasps found in North America. All wasps have chewing mouth parts and females possess a stinger.
