About wasps

Wasps Are Threatening Your Home?

Every day you wait, these dangerous insects multiply and become more aggressive.
Here’s what’s happening at your home right now.

Best Wasp Exterminator

Yellowjackets

Aggressive & Painful Stings

These yellow and black wasps build large nests in wall voids, attics, and underground. They are extremely aggressive and their stings can cause severe allergic reactions, posing a serious threat to your family and pets.

⚠️ Health Risk: High chance of painful stings

Paper Wasps

Paper Wasps

Building Nests Everywhere

Identified by their umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, in attics, and behind shutters. While less aggressive than yellowjackets, they will sting if their nest is disturbed, making outdoor activities a hazard.

⚠️ Property Damage: Nests can damage structures

Hornets

Hornets

A Serious Danger

Hornets, including the bald-faced hornet, build large, enclosed nests in trees, shrubs, and on buildings. They are highly defensive and will attack in large numbers, with painful stings that can be medically significant.

⚠️ Infestation Growth: Colonies grow rapidly

Do Not Hit That Nest With a Broom. Do Not Spray the Hole in the Wall.

It happens every summer. A homeowner sees wasps flying into a small crack under their siding or a hole in their lawn. They go to the hardware store, buy a can of wasp spray, wait until dark, and spray the hole.

This is the most dangerous thing you can do.

If you spray the entrance to a yellow jacket nest inside a wall void, the wasps inside realize the exit is blocked by poison. Panicked, they turn around, chew through the drywall, and emerge aggressively into your living room, kitchen, or bedroom.

If you spray an underground nest without the proper high-pressure equipment, you only kill the wasps near the entrance. The furious, surviving colony will swarm the moment you step foot in your yard again.

wasps Cause Trouble

The True Danger of a Wasp Colony

By late August and September, a single Yellow Jacket nest can contain 5,000 to 15,000 highly aggressive wasps. As the weather cools, their usual food sources vanish, and they become hyper-aggressive, desperate for sugars and proteins.

Yellow jackets and hornets, unlike bees, do not lose their stinger after an attack. They can sting you repeatedly. When the nest is threatened, guard wasps release a chemical alarm pheromone that tags you as the target, causing the entire colony to swarm and attack.

For the 3% of the population with severe allergies, a single sting can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis. But even for non-allergic adults and children, a mass stinging event from a disturbed nest is a profound medical emergency.

This is not a DIY task. It requires professional-grade dusts, high-pressure injection equipment, and full-body protective suits.

Damage to Structures

Paper wasps can chew wood to build nests, causing damage to decks, eaves, and siding.

Wall and Ceiling Damage

Nests built inside walls can lead to moisture damage and staining of drywall.

Attraction of Other Pests

Abandoned nests can attract other pests like beetles and spiders.

Painful Stings

Wasp stings are painful and can be dangerous, especially for those with allergies.

Allergic Reactions

Wasp stings can cause anaphylactic shock, a life-threatening allergic reaction, in sensitive individuals.

Shelter for Nests

Eaves, attics, sheds, and wall voids offer protected nesting sites.

Food Sources

Sweet foods, proteins, and even other insects in your garden attract wasps.

Water Sources

Bird baths, ponds, and pools can be a water source for wasps.

Flowering Plants

Certain flowers and plants can attract wasps looking for nectar.

Under Eaves and Soffits

Common nesting spots for paper wasps.

In Attics and Wall Voids

Yellowjackets and hornets often build nests in these hidden areas.

In Sheds and Garages

Undisturbed corners and ceilings are ideal for nests.

Underground

Some yellowjacket species build their nests in old rodent burrows.

Did You Know?

A single wasp nest can contain thousands of individuals, all of whom can become aggressive if the nest is threatened.

Prevention Tips

DIY Prevention Tips (Until We Arrive)

While waiting for our professional team, here are some steps you can take to reduce wasp activity.

⚠️ Why DIY Methods Often Fail

Never block a hole without confirming all squirrels are out. You could trap babies inside, leaving them to die and cause a terrible odor. Trapping is often inhumane and relocating squirrels is illegal in Ontario. Professional removal is the only safe and effective solution.

🚪

Block Entry Points

Seal cracks and crevices in your home's exterior

Install screens on windows and doors

Repair damaged siding and roofing

Cover vents with fine mesh

🎨

Avoid Attracting Colors

Wasps are attracted to bright colors

Wear neutral-colored clothing when outdoors

Avoid using brightly colored tablecloths

Choose neutral colors for outdoor furniture

🧽

Secure Food Sources

Keep food and drinks covered outdoors

Clean up spills and crumbs immediately

Secure garbage cans with tight-fitting lids

Harvest ripe fruit from trees

💧

Eliminate Water Sources

Repair leaky outdoor faucets and hoses

Empty standing water from buckets and planters

Ensure good drainage in your yard

Cover pools and hot tubs when not in use

🌳

Yard Maintenance

Remove old wood piles and debris

Fill in abandoned rodent burrows

Trim dense vegetation away from your home

Inspect for nests regularly

🏠

Use Decoys

Hang fake wasp nests in early spring

Wasps are territorial and may avoid an area

Place decoys in common nesting spots

This is a preventive measure, not a cure

What GTA Homeowners Say About Pestisect Wasp Removal

I noticed wasps flying into a tiny hole next to my front door. The Pestisect technician arrived wearing a full beekeeper suit. He injected this white dust into the hole, and thousands of yellow jackets started swarming him—it was terrifying to watch from the window. Within 3 hours, there was zero activity. If I had sprayed that myself I would have been in the hospital.

We had a massive paper wasp nest right above our patio dining table in Toronto. Let’s just say outdoor dinners were cancelled. Pestisect came out the very same day I called, treated the nest, and physically removed it. We had our backyard back by that evening.

I hit an underground wasp nest with my lawnmower in Brampton and got stung three times. Turns out it was yellow jackets. Pestisect came out the next morning, treated the hole deeply, and made sure my yard was safe for the kids to play in again before the weekend. Incredibly grateful.

How We Remove Squirrel

How Pestisect Eliminates the Entire Colony Safely

We don’t just spray the outside of a nest and hope for the best. We use specialized techniques to inject professional insecticidal dust directly into the heart of the colony chamber, ensuring guaranteed elimination.

Species Identification & Nest Location

Is it an aggressive Yellow Jacket, a paper wasp, or a Bald-Faced Hornet? Are they nesting exposed under an eave, deep underground in a garden bed, or inside the wall framework of your house? Our technician suits up in thick, sting-proof PPE and conducts a thorough assessment to locate the exact main chamber.

Direct Chamber Injection

Store-bought liquids bounce off the papery exterior of a nest. Alternatively, we use professional, high-pressure equipment to inject insecticidal dust directly into the entrance. The dust coats the inside of the chamber. As wasps fly in and out, they spread the dust throughout the colony and to the queen.

Colony Collapse Confirmation

The dust acts rapidly. Within hours, the colony collapses. We ensure that the Queen is eliminated and that returning worker wasps are coated and neutralized as well.

Safe Nest Removal (When Accessible)

If the nest is aerial (hanging from a tree or an eave), we physically scrape it down and bag it for removal. Leaving an abandoned nest in place can attract beetles, maggots, and other pests, or be re-inhabited next season by a new queen. (Note: Nests deep inside walls or underground are safely left in place once neutralized to avoid tearing up your drywall or landscaping).

Frequently Asked Questions About Wasp Removal

Do I need to be home for the treatment?
If the wasp nest is located on the exterior of your home (eaves, siding, or underground in the backyard), we do not require you to be home. As long as we have access to the yard, we can treat the nest, remove it, and email you the invoice.
Liquid spray clumps up and only kills the wasps it touches immediately. Insecticide dust coats the entrance channel. As foraging wasps fly in and out, the static charge on their bodies picks up the dust and legally carries it deep into the queen’s chamber. It is exponentially more effective for deep-hidden nests in walls and underground.

Do not panic, and do not caulk the hole. If you seal the exterior hole while the nest is active, they will chew through your interior drywall to escape. We inject dust directly into the exterior entrance. The wasps die inside the wall void safely, without penetrating your living space.

You will see an immediate reduction in activity, but it can take 24 to 48 hours for the complete colony to collapse, as worker wasps who were out foraging during the treatment need time to return to the nest and come into contact with the dust.
Absolutely not. Because our insecticidal dust is injected directly through the exterior hole the wasps are already using, there is zero need to cut into your interior walls to eradicate the colony.
